Coin Grading and Authentication

Herb’s Coin Shop is an Authorized Dealer of Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). We can send your coin or coins in to get graded. We can also give you our opinion if it is worthwhile if you have questions about whether to get your coin slabbed (graded) or not. We are also able to submit items for JSA (James Spence Authentication) autograph authentication and PMG (Paper Money Guaranty) paper money grading. From our FAQ: Coin grading is a grading system used to describe a coin’s condition. One of the most commonly used systems uses a 1-70 scale, with 1 for coins in poor condition and 70 for “Mint-State” condition, which is a perfect coin.Remember: One of the biggest mistakes people make with old coins is trying to make them look “new” again. While cleaning may seem helpful, it can actually damage the surface and reduce the coin’s collectible value. Natural toning, age, and originality are often important parts of what collectors look for, so it is always better to have a coin reviewed before doing anything to it.

Important: Do not clean your coins before bringing them in. Cleaning can result in lower grades and a drastically lower appraisal.
